The Technical Division develops, designs, fabricates or procures, and tests accelerator and detector components. Technical Division personnel not only build the components of the accelerators and detectors of today and the near future, but also think far in advance, preparing for the high-energy physics machines and experiments of generations to come. We are renowned for building the magnets for the Tevatron, the worlds first and still highest-energy collider.

Recent Technical Division major jobs:

  • Designed, built and tested over 400 magnets for Fermilab's new Main Injector
  • Manage the US National Laboratory collaboration working with CERN to build the Large Hadron Collider.
  • Develop, build and test the superconducting high-gradient quadrupoles for the LHC interaction regions.
  • Fabricate the end-cap muon chambers for the CMS detector at LHC.
  • Lead the R&D for superconducting magnets for a possible very large hadron collider (vlhc), including:
    • High-field magnets in cooperation with LBNL and KEK
    • Low-field superferric Pipetron magnets
  • Develop detectors and manage fabrication and installation of the AUGER cosmic-ray experiment.
