Proton Driver Workshop Purpose and Goals

A very intense proton source has been identified by the Fermilab Long-Range Planning Committee as one of the leading candidates for a future facility at Fermilab. The Fermilab Director has requested a study to prepare for the next step, which will require documentation sufficient to establish mission need, as defined by the DOE CD-0 process.

The purpose of the workshop is to explore the potential physics program that could be executed at a 2 MW proton source at Fermilab. In particular, the physics that could be pursued using very intense primary beams at both 8 GeV and at higher energies up to the maximum Fermilab Main Injector energy of 150 GeV. The presentations and discussion at the workshop will be used to both prepare and articulate the case for a new era of high intensity physics at Fermilab.
